Last few days

October 30th, 2010

Campaign teams are all over Nelson County doing a variety of activities.  Thank you all for taking so much time out of your schedule to make these last few days busy, productive and positive.  I am still working through phone calls and emails, but getting close to finishing it.

With only a few days left, we know our campaign stayed positive, professional and impactful.  This election is proving to be a very rewarding one, and given me many blessings.  Everyone has their assignments so go forth and make these last few days fun and great.  Thank you!

Debates, media, and everything else: Team Nelson County is Uniting

October 21st, 2010

A critical turning point in the campaign started with the PLG 13 and Kentucky Standard Debate on Tuesday night.  I want to first say that Tom Isaac, Lisa Tolliver, Jamie Sizemore and their crew did a professional and good job.  Thank you for the opportunity to speak not only to the large crowd in the Civic Center, but also to the voters at home.  The reception was incredibly warm and supportive at the Center.  The response on Facebook was instant, to include a slew of calls on the home phone.  While there were some technical difficulties, we must realize that these things happen.  The publisher, Mrs. Sizemore, promised the un-interrupted debate will replay multiple times in the coming weeks.  Again, thank you for the highly professional and positive experience.

Our campaign media started on multiple fronts on Wednesday.  Already we are getting a great response.  One voter stated, “Your ads are highly professional and clean.  I like your positive style.”  Another voter noted, “What a contrast to the negative garbage we suffer through, thank you!”.  But the biggest complement is when a lady called and said, “At last, we have a role model for my kids to look up to.”  This is very humbly to say the least.  We made the promise to run a positive and professional campaign, and we are making every effort to do so.

The New Haven debate went very well, and I was able to catch up with some old friends, and meet some new supporters.  Like normal, one of my opponents started to spread the RUMOR of cutting county worker pay.  We all have our style of debate and campaigning.  I will say this in a positive way.  I run a positive and professional campaign.  I do this for one major reason, this is how WE will run OUR government.  County workers keep calling in and telling us of their support considering the “source”.  As I have made clear, POLITICAL APPOINTEEs will take pay cuts to match what is reasonable in surrounding Counties.  It is your money, and I am tired of career politicians  accepting people making high salaries when others in surrounding counties are making much less.  This corruption must stop!  In addition, the County Judge appoints a wide range of people, some being direct and others being with approval of the fiscal court.  Either way, salaries will go down because the new court will expect cost saving measures in these hard times.  One must ask, why are businesses and families cutting their budgets, but government is giving 4% annual pay increases to POLITICAL APPOINTEEs.  The issue is very clear, our good old boys are having to account to their decisions.  The response was warm and clear, New Haven is ready for change.

The closing days of the campaigns are showing a uptick in website visitors, huge volumes of emails and calls, and many other forms of support.  Please feel free to contact me about ways to help out, donate money via the website, and be a part of history!  Thank you to all of our supporters, and hope to see you in the coming days.

Kentucky Standard: Start to another great week!

October 17th, 2010

Nothing gets you fired up more than reading the front page of the Kentucky Standard and seeing articles on multiple issues facing our County.  It appears that the City of Bardstown is ready for a new ethics ordinance.  Since the election is upon us, I would suggest their efforts wait till a new city council and county government are installed in January.  One thing that must change is the removing of nepotism in the law.  We are better than this law, and should be removed at once.  In addition, I propose members should serve one term in office with no chance of being put back on the ethics board, and would have to sit out one year before being appointed on other boards.  We must embrace laws that encourage positive and ethical behavior.

The other article was about an email which was sent out and made part of the official record that shows my opponent making comments about planning and zoning.  These negative comments come as a shock to many people given his record of supporting all the planning and zoning laws for the past 16 years.  Recently at a candidate forum with the Local 23d Union, Watts stated if anyone could find a difference between him and Hutchins on Planning and Zoning votes, he would eat the paper the law was printed on.  This is a big statement in that if you want more of the same good old boy politics, you have two great choices with not a lick of differences between them.  I provide a real difference in moving forward on these issues.

And the best part of the paper today was a letter of support by Sandra Brothers.  She is a new supporter who noted she was tired of the ugly and negative attacks being conducted in this election.  She stated my positive message and ideas moved her to our campaign.  Thank you for the kind words and I look forward to seeing you more in the next few weeks! http://www.lcni5.com/cgi-bin/c2.cgi?091+article+Opinion+20101016105821091091015

The message is clear, the People do not want incumbents and career politicians doing nothing for 2 decades, and then being negative in their campaigns.  I totally agree, the time is upon us for change!  Our teams are going out all over the County to spread the word.  People keep joining teams to help out in very creative and neat ways.  Thank you for the support and we will turn up the operationally tempo once again for the final weeks!

2010 Campaign supporter in public

An amazing week

October 15th, 2010

As we move closer to the election, the first for the Nelson County Judge Executive, our campaign had another great week!  We were able to contact so many people via different campaign events and activities.  We even got a big boost from an ad put in the Kentucky Standard, which we are researching now if we need to claim this as an in-kind gift due to the huge benefits for me.  The Union candidate meeting gained us multiple calls of support and people coming up to me in public.  Just today, we had several groups of supporters pop up around the County to do additional campaigning for us!!  Multiple new teams were brought online to augment existing campaign efforts.  Paul even endorsed our local Conservative candidates.  Yes, we have a diverse base of support.  But we are all Americans, no matter our differences, we have a common goal of making America a better place to live!

People need to be clear.  We serve Americans first.  The military taught me that I am a public servant, here to serve America.  We are here to unify our fractured political system, to move past the good old politics and make our County a better place to work, live and play.  We can make this a Yes You Can County!  Thank you for all the support in the closing days of this election.  We are making a difference and changing things.  Again, thank you!

Here is a supporter overwhelmed by all the hard work this week, lol.  She needs to take a break this weekend, thanks for making this a fun campaign!!!

Thank you for the record day

October 13th, 2010

After a long day of walking and knocking on doors, I got home to a record number of calls and emails.  Then I got an update on the website and we  our daily volume by almost 50%.  We are gaining strength, but it was interesting why today?  Voter after voter mentioned the ad in the Kentucky Standard drove people to my website.  My ad is not in the paper, so I read up.  Sure enough there was a political ad by my opponent.  Thank you so much, it actually is gaining us sign requests, record web hits, and backed me up on calls and emails.  People are tired of negative politics, and ready for change.  Voters are smarter than this ad allows for with one lady stating, “Pete, I heard you in Chaplin.  You gave great answers to every question.  Shame on him.”  Another voter related, “Making fun of a disabled veteran is poor form.  You now have my vote.”  Yet a senior stated, “Stretching the truth is one thing, being silly is another.  My vote is yours.”  And the quotes keep going on.

The good old boys are scared and resorting to negative campaign ads.  Good for them.  The only question I have is since it is helping me out so much, do I have to claim this ad as a campaign in kind gift?  Please, keep this ad going for 3 more weeks!  We love it. viagra

Strong start to another week

October 12th, 2010

This week is starting off pretty strong.  We are contacting so many people, getting more and more volunteers from all around the County, and having a great time with all the new projects coming online.  Teams are getting the same clear message, people want new leadership and want a different direction in our local government.  Poll after poll shows that voters are tired of career politicians.  We provide that choice for new and responsible leadership for Nelson County.

With so much going on, please feel free to join Team Nelson County.  We offer people creative and flexible ways to make history.  Hope to see you soon.
